One of the more compelling “gotcha” moments during the June 15, 2015 Preliminary Hearing to indict Charles Ray Merritt, was the discovery by San Bernardino Investigators that in the two days just prior to Charles Ray Merritt reporting his close friend and business associate missing, Merritt attempts to cancel McStay’s Quickbook accounts.

The defense has not suggested an explanation for this, other than Merritt claiming at some point that McStay asked him to do this.
